Temecula First Time Home Buyers- There’s a new sheriff in town!

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

First time home buyers in Temecula, Murrieta and other parts of Southwest Riverside County have an abundance of choices when it comes to fast food dining, particularly hamburgers.

For years the first choice for most residents of Temecula and Murrieta, and for most of Southern California has been the iconic In-N-Out Burger chain. In-N-Out has thrived in Southern California on a simple premise of fresh, never frozen burgers and french fries.

The new burger sheriff in Temecula

Well in this year’s Zagat poll for best burger in Southern California In-N-Out was upset by the new sheriff in town, 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. The Virginia based company has more than 500 outlets and recently opened their first restaurant in Temecula. It’s located on the southwest corner of Margarita and Winchester, next to the pool supply store.

After reading a column in the Californian by John Hunneman, I couldn’t wait to try the 5 Guys so my wife and I went there today around 1:30 and the restaurant was packed.

It’s red and white theme reminded me of a cross between In-N-Out and Fuddruckers. Unlike In-N-Out there’s no drive thru, but that’s the only area where 5 Guys falls short. Even as busy as the restaurant was, their assembly line moved things quickly and we had our food within 10 minutes.

I ordered a regular bacon cheeseburger, with lettuce, pickles, grilled onions and barbeque sauce (all the toppings are free). Their regular burger comes with two patties and felt like more than twice the size of my usual In-N-Out “double double”. I could taste the freshness of the meat and the toppings and everything is prepared with no trans fat.

The french fries, like In-N-Out are also fresh and the regular size was more than this fry lover could handle, even with a little help from my wife.

As much as this In-N-Out junkie hates to admit it, 5 Guys is the new king of burgers for me (no pun intended).

My heart surgeon only allows a minimal number of burger splurges, and I’m definitely glad I used this one on 5 Guys Burgers and Fries.
